Deep Tissue Massage
About this treatment
More than just a deep massage — a real reset for your body
Some tension sits so deep that a regular massage barely touches it. Chronic stress, old injuries, repetitive strain from work or sport — over time, these leave their mark in the deeper layers of your muscles and fascia. That’s exactly where Deep Tissue Massage comes in, and why I love working with it.
With careful, sustained pressure and targeted techniques, I work my way into the deeper muscle layers — slowly, attentively, and always in dialogue with your body. It’s not about pushing through pain; it’s about finding the right depth where your tissue can actually let go. Most clients are surprised by how deeply relaxing this can be, even though the work is firm and focused.
Whether you’re dealing with a stiff neck, a stubborn lower back, tight shoulders, or tension that’s simply been building for too long — I’ll tailor every session to what your body needs most on that day. You leave feeling lighter, more open, and genuinely yourself again.
Why choose this
The advantages of a Deep Tissue Massage in Bonaire
Release of chronic muscle tension
Deep tissue work reaches the layers of muscle and fascia that everyday massage cannot touch. I work slowly and precisely into areas of chronic holding, breaking down adhesions and restoring suppleness to tissue that has been tight for far too long.
Pain relief for back, neck and shoulders
Whether you are dealing with postural pain, sports injuries or the deeply held tension that comes from stress — deep tissue massage targets the root cause rather than the surface symptoms, providing lasting relief where other treatments fall short.
Improved posture and movement
When tight muscles and fascial restrictions are released, your body naturally finds a more balanced alignment. Many clients notice they stand taller, move more freely and experience less daily discomfort within just a few sessions.
Faster recovery from sport and activity
Deep tissue massage accelerates recovery by increasing blood flow to overworked muscles, reducing inflammation and clearing lactic acid buildup. It is an essential tool for anyone who pushes their body — whether in sport, diving or daily life.

What happens during your Deep Tissue Massage?
We start with a short intake so I understand exactly where you’re holding tension and what you’d like to work on. I use a combination of slow, firm strokes (effleurage), targeted kneading (petrissage), and sustained trigger point pressure to reach the deeper muscle layers. I always work gradually — building depth as your body opens up, never forcing.
Throughout the session I check in with you, so the pressure stays in that productive zone between ‘intense’ and ‘comfortable’. After the massage your muscles may feel a little tender for a day or two — that’s a normal sign that the tissue has been worked. Most clients notice a real improvement in mobility and a significant drop in tension within 24–48 hours.
Is this treatment right for you?
Deep Tissue Massage is especially well suited if you experience chronic muscle tension or pain, reduced mobility, postural complaints, or tension built up through sport or physically demanding work. It’s also a powerful choice if you feel you carry stress in your body and regular massage no longer gives you enough relief.
If you’re unsure whether this is the right treatment for you, feel free to contact me — I’m happy to think along with you. You might also find it helpful to explore some of the complementary treatments I offer: Sports Massage, Muscle & Fascia Therapy, Psoas Release, or Cupping Massage — each one a wonderful partner to Deep Tissue work, depending on what your body is asking for.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is a therapeutic technique that uses slow, firm pressure to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Unlike a relaxation massage, it targets specific areas of chronic tension, adhesions, and restricted movement. At Massage Bonaire, your therapist combines several techniques — including cross-fiber friction, trigger point release, and fascial work — to address the root cause of your discomfort rather than just the surface.
Is deep tissue massage supposed to hurt?
Effective deep tissue work should feel intense at times — a ‘good hurt’ that your body recognizes as productive — but it should never be painful in a way that makes you tense up or hold your breath. Your therapist checks in regularly and adjusts pressure based on your feedback. The goal is deep release, not endurance. Honest communication throughout your session makes all the difference.
How long is the session and what does it cost?
Sessions are available in multiple durations to suit your schedule and the areas you want to address — from a focused shorter session to a longer full-body treatment. For current pricing and session lengths, please visit our pricing page or contact us directly. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak season on the island.
Is this a good massage to get after a day of diving in Bonaire?
Yes — with one important note. It’s best to wait at least 12 to 24 hours after your final dive before receiving deep tissue work, as the body needs time to off-gas nitrogen following time underwater. After that window, a deep tissue session is an excellent way to address the shoulder, neck, and lower back tension that comes from carrying tanks, wearing a wetsuit, and finning against current. Many divers visiting Bonaire make it a regular part of their trip routine.
Who is deep tissue massage best suited for?
This treatment is ideal for anyone dealing with chronic muscle tension, limited mobility, post-activity soreness, or persistent pain in specific areas like the neck, shoulders, back, or hips. It’s especially popular among active travelers, desk workers on vacation, athletes, and anyone who has been carrying physical stress for an extended period. It’s also excellent for people who simply know their body needs more than a gentle touch to truly let go.
Are there people who should avoid deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is not recommended for people with certain medical conditions including blood clots, open wounds, skin infections, osteoporosis, or those who have recently had surgery. If you are pregnant, have a history of cancer, or are on blood-thinning medication, please consult your physician before booking. When in doubt, mention your health history during the intake conversation — your therapist will guide you honestly.
Can I book a same-day appointment at Massage Bonaire?
Same-day bookings are sometimes available depending on the schedule, but Massage Bonaire is a sought-after destination on the island and appointments do fill up — especially during peak travel periods. We strongly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time slot. You can check availability and book directly through our website or by contacting us.
How will I feel after my session?
Most people feel a satisfying combination of deep relaxation and physical relief immediately after their session. Some mild soreness in the treated areas is completely normal within the first 24 to 48 hours — similar to the feeling after a good workout — and typically fades into lasting relief. Drinking plenty of water after your session helps your body process the metabolic changes and supports recovery.
