Hammam Massage
About this treatment
An Ancient Ritual, Right Here on Bonaire
The word hammam comes from Arabic and means “spreading warmth” — and that is exactly what this treatment does. Rooted in centuries of Greek, Roman and Islamic bathing culture, the hammam ritual has always been about far more than just cleansing. It is a ceremony of care, of slowing down, of letting warmth and touch do what nothing else can.
I have translated this timeless tradition into a deeply nourishing treatment that begins the moment you step through the door. A warm foot bath grounds you. A heated water cushion supports your back. Warm compresses open your pores and prepare your skin — and then the ritual truly begins. I use a mineral-rich Dead Sea salt scrub blended with coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil and rose oil to gently buff away tension and dullness. A Rhassoul clay mask from the Moulouya Valley in Morocco draws out impurities while you rest, wrapped and cocooned in warmth. Then comes the soap bag ritual — 100% pure cold-pressed olive oil soap worked into a cloud of foam that I massage deep into your skin.
By the time we finish, your skin feels like silk and your whole body feels like it has been reset. This is one of my most beloved treatments, and once you experience it, you will understand why.

What Happens During Your Hammam Massage?
We begin with a warm foot bath to help you arrive fully — letting the day fall away before you even lie down. You settle onto the treatment table with a warm water cushion cradling your back, and I cover you in soft towels and a blanket so you feel completely held and warm. I make contact with gentle pressure across your whole body before we move into the ritual itself.
First comes the scrub: a fragrant blend of Dead Sea salt, coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil and rose oil that I apply in circular movements to gently exfoliate and stimulate. Warm compresses follow to remove the scrub and continue opening the skin. Then I apply the Rhassoul clay — rich, mineral-dense clay from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco — and wrap you in a warm cover so it can work its magic. While the clay absorbs impurities and nourishes deeply, I begin the soap bag ritual on your legs: pure olive oil soap lathered into a luxurious foam, massaged in and then removed with warm compresses. I finish your back with the full zeepzak treatment and a final round of warm compresses, pressing gently along your spine to seal in the warmth and calm.
The treatment is available in 60, 90 and 120 minutes, with each longer version adding more of the ritual — extra scrub on the legs, Rhassoul on every area, and a slow foot massage to close.
Is This Treatment Right for You?
The Hammam Massage is a beautiful choice whenever you want to deeply nourish and renew your skin, release built-up tension, or simply give yourself a truly luxurious, grounding experience. Please let me know in advance if you have high or low blood pressure, thrombosis, eczema, open wounds or skin infections, as these are contraindications for this treatment. I always take a moment before we begin to make sure everything is tailored to you.
If you love the warmth and ritual of the Hammam, you might also enjoy the Bonarian Salt Massage for a lighter exfoliating experience, the deeply soothing Coco Bliss Treatment for rich coconut nourishment, or a Relaxation Massage to simply melt into stillness. For targeted body contouring alongside your skin care, the Slimming Massage is a wonderful complement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is a Hammam Massage?
A hammam massage is a full-body cleansing and relaxation ritual inspired by the traditional Turkish and Moroccan bath experience. It typically combines the application of warm towels, exfoliation with a kese mitt, a rich foam application, and flowing massage strokes. At Massage Bonaire, the treatment is performed with careful attention to each stage of the ritual, creating an experience that is both therapeutic and deeply luxurious.
How long is the treatment and what does it cost?
The hammam massage is available in different durations to suit your schedule during your stay on the island. Please see our pricing page for current rates and available session lengths. We recommend booking in advance, especially during peak travel season, to secure your preferred time.
Is a Hammam Massage good after a day of diving on Bonaire?
Absolutely — and it is honestly one of the best things you can do for your body after a dive day. The warmth helps ease any muscle stiffness, the exfoliation clears away the effects of saltwater and sun on your skin, and the full-body massage supports circulation and helps flush out physical fatigue. Many of our guests make it a ritual after their diving days on the island.
What will my skin feel like after the treatment?
Most guests describe their skin as remarkably soft, smooth, and visibly refreshed after a hammam massage. The kese exfoliation is thorough but never harsh, and the foam and massage work together to leave the skin deeply nourished. The results are often striking enough that guests want to book a second session before their vacation ends.
Who should avoid a Hammam Massage?
The hammam massage is gentle and suitable for most adults. However, it may not be recommended if you have very sensitive or broken skin, active skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis in an acute phase, sunburn, or certain medical conditions. If you have any concerns, please reach out to us before booking and we will be happy to advise you on the most suitable treatment.
Can I book a Hammam Massage on the same day?
Same-day bookings are sometimes available depending on the schedule, but we strongly recommend booking in advance — especially if your time on Bonaire is limited. You can check availability and book directly through our website or by contacting us. We always do our best to accommodate guests who are looking for a last-minute treat.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?
No special preparation is needed. We recommend arriving well-hydrated, avoiding heavy meals immediately before your session, and allowing yourself a little time afterward to rest and enjoy the feeling of renewal. If you have recently had significant sun exposure or a sunburn, let us know at booking so we can advise you appropriately.
